The artist spent a month working on a personal project inspired by popular culture superstitions - amulets, incantations, omens and divination - as ways to respond to the unsettling uncertainty.
In times of crisis and times, both in the life of one person and society, interest in the supernatural increases. When all patterns are in question, consolation can be the hypothesis of some other level of pattern. Historians point out that, for example, modern magical practices of attracting good luck in their seeming illogicality are fragments of an agreed complex of mythological ideas about the world. At the same time, they remain strange and not entirely explicable for us, radiating something bewitching and poetic in their fragmentation.
The project "Below the Graveyard, Above the Sun" reflects the hope for happiness inherent in a person even in the most desperate situations and the desire to counter the feeling of helplessness with special secret tricks.
One of the images of the exhibition was the Old Believer legend about the city of Kitezh, which allegedly went into the lake to escape the advancing enemy troops.
