Residence of Yulya Ivanova
For Yulya Ivanova, the residency was the first in her career. She is also from the city of Bor, and questions related to getting to know the city and “acclimatizing” it in the cultural environment were out of the question. She had already been to the cities she planned to visit as part of the art residency program (Semenov, Balakhna, Gorodets), so her focus was on finding something new and delving into the context of the environment. In Balakhna, a spontaneous drift around the city from studying lace in the museum suddenly led to the zoo. Semenov met the “Golden Khokhloma” craftsmen’s fair, where each hero, along with his or her work, was surrounded by his or her own story, his or her own little world, and it was impossible to leave without the mysterious Slavic “piston” shoes. And in Gorodets Yulya was able to immerse herself in everyday life and get to know the girls who do gold embroidery closely – the residency in Gorodets is run by a master in this craft. Yulia is the author who looks for subjects and material everywhere - a "WILL YOU WANT" sign, an anime gingerbread, a "non-canonical" souvenir, and this anthropological passion ultimately leads her to strange dreamlike subjects, observations and discoveries that are captured in painting and graphics, where everything is fused into a single plane.
