Cema Bomse was born in 1994 in Nizhny Novgorod (Russia). During his school years he wanted to go to study at an art school, but his parents sent him to study at a music school. In 2006, under the influence of street subcultural movements and music he became acquainted with graffiti and started to paint on the street. At the same time he became interested in punk culture - music, style and ideas which largely influenced the development of creativity. For several years he was working in the local graffiti team named Bomse.
Cema began his activities as a studio artist in 2019 when he presented his first solo project. Then there was a series of “basement” and institutional exhibitions as part of the group and also as independed author. The Bomse crew transformed into a creative association. In addition to participating in the team’s projects, Cema performs as a vocalist at performances.
Now Cema works mainly with painting and graphics using available materials and experimenting with techniques. He actively continues to create street works, the subjects of which he transfers into his original tattoo and studio work. His cross-cutting characters are a stupid loyal dog, fallen angels, kids and adults, skeletons which reflect his personal mythology and inner world. Plots of his works are often connected with mystical poetry and symbolism, touch on issues of vices, and talk about faith, love and friendship. Also Cema's artistic practice is influenced by the aesthetics of art brut, neo-primitivism, punk and other various forms of marginal art.
