Anna But
She was born in 1984, she lives and works in Omsk. She graduated from the Dostoevsky Omsk State University, Faculty of Culture and Arts, specializing in "Cinema, Photography, and Video Creativity." She is a studio director and teacher.
An interdisciplinary artist whose artistic practice involves working with found objects, photography, and text, most often in the form of artist's books, including textile books. She works with textiles as an image, a material, and a carrier of memory. Her practice is characterized by manual labor, slowing down, observation, and reworking. Textiles serve as a means of combining craft, intuition, and chance. She creates portraits, fabric books, and soft installations from fragments of memories, conversations, and dreams.
She also explores themes of trauma and personal history, immersing herself in the context and characteristics of urban space. She has sewn and decorated costumes and objects for opera, film, and theater, and has collaborated with Russian and international designers.
Her works are in the collection of the Krasnoyarsk Museum Center "Ploshchad Mira," the Victoria Gallery of Contemporary Art, and private collections in Russia and abroad.
